Aerospace Committee

The aerospace committee keeps Legion members current on the development of new aerospace technologies and celebrates the history of manned (and now unmanned) flight. Erik Parcells, Chair of this committee is also the 24th District Aerospace Chairman and at the last 2 state conventions went on Air Force sponsored tours at the nearest Air Force Base to the convention.

The promotion of the Boy Scouts, JROTC, Boys state, Girls state , Big Brothers/Big Sisters, YMCA and many others fit under the committee's umbrella. In conjunction with other committees such as Boy Scouts we donate to and support the development of the generations to follow. Chair Bob MIller is the current 24th District Scout Advisor.

Who Is A Legionnaire?

From every walk of life they come. Every occupation. Every race, creed and color. Men and women. Their single bond is honorable service in the uniform of the United States of America during the periods of hostilities of our nation’s conflicts

The organization which they have created has been described as the most representative cross-section in the nation. As varied as the nation’s 17,000 posts are in size and activities, each provides a focal center for veteran sentiment and patriotic feeling. Each feels a responsibility for the well being of veterans generally and individually. And, to an amazing extent, discharges that responsibility. Each carries on projects or lends support in that broad area which has come to be known as community service.

Post 43 History

Welcome to the History section.

Here we’ll give you an idea of the rich and varied background of Post 43. The Post began more than ninety years ago in 1919. By a quirk of bookkeeping, Post 43 received its charter several days before the national organization received theirs from the United States Congress. But, then Hollywood’s always been a bit ahead of the times.

As the doughboys of World War I began returning to Hollywood and to the jobs they’d left to fight the war to end all wars, they came back carrying the seed of the idea of an organization of, by and for veterans – The American Legion. While several talked about it, for most it remained just that, talk until Taylor Duncan, a stage hand in silent movie era of Hollywood, took charge of the idea.

BOXING

From it's beginnings in 1920 the Hollywood American Legion Boxing Stadium was the place to be for the who's who in Hollywood. Members of Post 43 turned this humble venture into Hollywood's first boxing ring. Over the years it grew to have bleachers then to an open air stadium that was eventually roofed off. In 1934 the whole place was torn down and the grand building that stands their today was built.

Newsflash

“The American Legion will stand against anyone and any group that would demoralize our troops, or worse, endanger their lives by encouraging terrorists to continue their cowardly attacks against freedom-loving peoples.”
