Adjutant's Outlook: Unity in Action

“…devotion to mutual helpfulness…”

The strength of a community is only truly tested in the face of adversity. Over the past months, as we've grappled with a myriad of challenges, I've been privileged to witness the dedication, resilience, and unity of our Post 43 family.

Firstly, I must commend the relentless efforts of our Assistant Adjutant and the Art Deco Bar staff. They've undertaken a comprehensive overhaul of our inventory ordering process, ensuring efficiency and accountability. Moreover, they've meticulously reviewed our pricing model, striking a balance between fiscal responsibility and ensuring our members continue to enjoy affordable options at the bar. Their commitment to excellence, even in the minutiae, has been instrumental in navigating our current challenges.

No one has better exemplified the Legion's spirit of devotion to mutual helpfulness than the volunteer leaders from Auxiliary Unit 43, Sons Squadron 43, and Chapter 43 Riders. When the Post faced staff call-outs and unexpected resignations, these selfless members of the Legion Family filled critical gaps and ensured our operations continued seamlessly. They reminded the entire Los Angeles veteran community what the Post can be at its best: a hub for all of us to come together and share camaraderie and resources as we navigate an incredibly challenging time for our city. Their dedication is a testament to the collective spirit of Post 43, where every member's contribution is invaluable.

Lastly, but by no means least, I want to spotlight the tireless work of our Executive Committee and Board of Trustees. As this administration closes out its first quarter, the number of hours they've dedicated to solving a raft of challenges is staggering. In-person board meetings until midnight. Hours-long Zoom calls seemingly every other day. From the intricate El Centro negotiations, Disaster Preparedness for generational storms, and navigating the complexities of labor actions, their commitment to securing the future of Post 43 has been unwavering. I honestly cannot say enough about the magnitude and number of puzzles this board has had to try and solve, and they've done so through no small amount of resistance, both institutional and personal, in unprecedented economic circumstances.

In these trying times, it's easy to focus on the challenges. Yet, I choose to focus on the unity, dedication, and collective spirit of our Post 43 community. Together, we are navigating these challenges and laying the foundation for a brighter, more resilient future. Every day, we see our leadership, volunteers, members, and staff working incredibly hard to show how capable and imaginative our veterans and families are. There will always be challenges facing our community, state, and nation. What we see our community prove is that the safest hands are still our own.

Thank you for your continued support, trust, and commitment to our shared mission. Together, as one united Post 43 family, we will thrive.

In service and camaraderie,

Josh Epstein

Adjutant, Post 43
