Commander's Corner: Courageous Change in the Face of Challenge

Dear Post 43 Members,

This spring, you voted in a team of officers and board members to bring about change.

When we took our oaths of office in June, we did so with a clear mandate from you, our valued membership: to halt unsustainable spending, bring much-needed transparency to our operations, and critically analyze every project the previous administration did not complete.

Today, at the end of the 1st quarter of this game, I bring you an update on our journey to uphold this mandate and the challenges we face.

The ongoing entertainment industry strikes have deeply impacted some of our members and the industry our business model is built on. The inherent challenges of our theater operations have continued to add to the growing financial problems that have existed at the Post over the last six years. However, these challenges have also illuminated the dedication and resilience of our Post 43 community. We've seen members and staff rally to develop and facilitate events that serve our community and efforts at every level to control costs, reduce overhead, and ask the vital question of how we can improve or do something better.

I want to acknowledge the tireless efforts of our Executive Committee members, Board of Trustees, Budget and Finance Committee, Judge Advocate, Adjutant and office staff, various Committees, and the team of volunteers and employees who have delved deep into these intricate issues. Their countless hours, often behind the scenes, work product and data analysis have been instrumental in dissecting the complexities we face. Their commitment to transparency, fiscal responsibility, and the future of our Post is nothing short of meritorious. I'd name every one of them Legionnaire of the Year.

While navigating these financial waters, our primary focus remains unwavering: to serve our veterans, members, and the broader community. We are actively exploring avenues to recalibrate our theatrical screening and event rental models to align with our current realities. Every decision made is to ensure the longevity and prosperity of Post 43. We are an American Legion first and always. We have a world-class venue for rent and will continue to be among the best hosts in Hollywood.

I understand that change can be painful, especially when financial constraints drive it. But I assure you, every step we take aligns with the mandate you entrusted us with. We are committed to stopping unsustainable spending, ensuring our Post's financial future, and maintaining the transparency you expect.

I want to thank our members and every branch of the Legion Family for your continued support, understanding, and unwavering commitment to our shared mission. As a united Post 43 community, we will continue to find our footing over the next three quarters, navigate these challenges together, emerge stronger, and we will win the game.

Integrity First, Service Before Self, and Excellence In All We Do.
