Adjutant's Outlook: DOCENT CORPS

“…to preserve the memories and incidents of all wars…”

Dear Post 43 Members,

As we reflect on the tremendously consequential issues the membership voted on this week, I want to call special attention to what made those discussions and their results possible: volunteerism.

Volunteerism is the driving force behind any successful service organization. Today, we are excited to introduce a new initiative to elevate the Post's engagement and enrich our shared experience…

The Post 43 Docent Corps

The word "docent" may not be familiar to all, but its essence embodies the values that define the American Legion and our mission to serve. Derived from the Latin word "docēre," meaning "to teach," a docent is a knowledgeable guide who passionately shares knowledge with others. Our Docent Corps will be an enthusiastic team of members passionate about our Post's rich history, traditions, and contributions to the community. They will also serve one of the core missions of the American Legion: "to preserve the memories and incidents of all wars."

The Docent Corps will welcome members and guests alike, offering guided tours and insights into the Post's artifacts, historical photographs, and unique memorabilia. Using innovative tools like the system of QR codes put in place with help from Sons of the American Legion Squadron 43, our Docents will help members and guests make form deep connections to Hollywood's golden era and a legacy of service to our veterans.

To make the Docent Corps a resounding success, we invite all Legionnaires, Sons, and Auxiliary members who have a passion for storytelling and a desire to serve to join our ranks. Whether you are a long-time member or a new addition to the Post family, your dedication and knowledge can ignite curiosity and inspire others to become part of our rich legacy.

Yours in Service,

Josh Epstein
